READING IN TRANSITION
This digitally edited, all color tape presents films taken
by Harold Clevenstine along the tracks of the Reading Company and of the
Reading power on the Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines and the Pennsylvania
Railroad during the 1950's. You will see EMD F3's, Baldwin AS16's and
Fairbanks-Morse Train Masters. But more than anything else, you will see
Reading steam!
T-1 4-84's are common, but there are also G-3 4-6-2's and other more unusual
steamers at locations such as Camden, N.J., Gordon, Rutherford, Reading and
Northumberland, PA. You'll see steam and diesel power struggle with the 2.6%
grade up Locust Summit. Visit Gordon engine terminal just as the diesels have
been delivered, spelling the end for many older steamers. Among the trains you
will see pulled by Reading steam power is the PRR "Buffalo Boxcar" and a Mt.
Carmel re train as well as P.R.S.L. Ocean City express and we cap off this
look at a nostalgic era in American railroad history with a ride on the rear
vestibule of a reading Ramble over the Catawissa Branch.
45 minutes, All color, graphics, maps and narration.
